This station is located within one of the most congested areas of Minneapolis and abuts the historic Walker Library and an active rail corridor. Site selection was sensitive due to unavailable vacant land. Recommended bridge expansion allowed the construction of stations on either side of the bridge to include bus pullover lanes. The east station includes a layover area with transit personnel facilities. Design accommodated SHPO requirements, and anticipated connections to future LRT and trolley routes, an existing greenway corridor, and bikeway corridor expansion. The project succeeded in concentrating service, and providing safe and effective transfers between routes. Read more in "Multi-modal Minnesota."
