Called "the best project I ever voted against" by the Mayor of Robbinsdale, Hubbard Marketplace was the result of efforts to incorporate a transit station into downtown redevelopment plans. LSA was commissioned in 1996 by Metro Transit to prepare planning and design alternatives; then in 1999 by the City to propose a final location and design. The solution was the adaptive re-use of an art-deco fire station to include passenger waiting areas, commercial space, outdoor farmers market and planned connections to the adjacent rail corridor - a designated future busway.
